SciFi Wire has more news on the new Hobbit movie production. Director Guillermo del Toro plans for directing two parts of Lord of the Rings prequel films. The first will be based solely on J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Hobbit". In the second one del Toro plans to tell the story between the events of Hobbit and the beginning of Fellowship Of The Ring.
His problem however are copyright restrictions. He is limited to the content included in "Hobbit" and "The Lord Of The Rings". "Silmarilion" and any other Tolkien writings, are off limits.
del Toro remains positive though. He says: "There is enough ... narrative abridgement and some other pieces of narrative and suggestions and appendix notes and this and that to guide and create something that will not infringe anything else. But it's too early for me to swear by it. I think that that's the real creative endeavor on the second film."
