D'oh. Where are you guys now? Texas? I thought while I typed that that you guys had moved out east, but I couldn't think of the state so I figured I was misremembering.

Good lord, no. Texas has like, that evil sun thing beating down on it and frying eggs on sidewalks. We're in the mountains of CO, where it's absolutely gorgeous, and I just may stay for the rest of forever. BigGrin

This past weekend, Austin City Limits reaired a Manu Chao show from last season. I recorded it and have played it 4 or 5 times already.

I've liked Manu Chao for a few years, but this is by far the best I've ever heard 'em. There's a ton of energy in that show and their lead guitarist is actually very very good, which I'd never noticed. I don't know how a 50 year old singer has enough energy to jump around that much.

I don't know what in the world they're saying most of the time, since I have a very limited Spanish vocabulary and next to no French vocabulary, but I sure like the way they say it.

A bit of REM, Amon Amarth & Dark Tranquillity and Bay Area thrash metal. As for the latter, it's a shame the bands use such vocals. They ruin very good music... It's just that Thrash Metal needs rough and strong vocals...

Sick Puppies and Rev Theory. Sick Puppies are a rock band from Australia who have a unique sound but manage to fit well with other rock acts. I just saw them live a couple weeks ago with Hurt and was really blown away. Rev Theory has been around for awhile and I didn't really know/like them until I heard "Far From Over" on the radio. Lovely song with great vocal harmonies -- something present in all of their music.

The new release from Scratching the Itch (well, okay, the only release under this project name), 'Why Bother' has been going mostly non-stop all day today, and will probably keep going for awhile.

Very Depeche Mode-y, with a little Soil&Eclipse and (newer) Front242 thrown in.

The title song, Why Bother, makes me think a little bit of what would happen if Depeche Mode covered Stabbing Westward - raw hurt and anger delivered with crunchy, butterscotch flavoured synth.

He is also a friend of Tac's (though that's not why I'm so gushy. I honestly DO enjoy this, and have been waiting for new synthpop that isn't total crap). Smile

The Pregnant Concert CD, by Rasputina, a neo-Victorian gothic cello quartet. Lead singer Melora jokes about her unborn child in between songs.

Lots of metal bands lately. Currently stuck in my head: Demons & Wizards - Blood On My Hands.

I find myself more or less lacking any great love for any specific music genre. It's not that I dislike music, just that I don't think that I really identify with any specific kind of music.

I generally like a song of this kind and one of that. I have actually recently been going to youtube and listening to a bunch of the bands and songs that have been listed in this thread, I even liked a few of them Smile.

I am just the type of person who can ride in a car for hours and have nothing but silence for company, but I do appreciate everyone talking about their favorite bands and what they like, it has been very interesting to listen in on what you guys really like! Gives me something fun to do anyway.

I agree to. Alot of times I like to just ride silent, i hate it when a friend brings thier ipod and jams out in my car especially when its really loud i hate that.

Viikate RollEyes They certainly have a unique sound. The Christmas CD especially is sure to leech all the joy from your holidays Tongue

I just basically said the exact same thing in another topic, but just from the opposite angle: I like too many "genres" to really be able to define my taste in music through them.

I'd go insane without my mp3 player on long trips. It's not too bad if I'm driving, but for example travelling by train and not having my mp3 player is torture.
